Wine, craft beer
The Porthole is a European-style wine and tapas restaurant that proudly features boutique BC wines on tap!
Casual, eclectic and whimsical. We have wine flights, Iberian pinchos and charcuterie plates, as well as sharing plates such as Spanish meatballs and Patatas Bravas, Portuguese sardines with French gribiche sauce, and Portuguese cheese balls. The Lulu Sweet — a decadent triple-layered chocolate cake topped with raspberry ganache — is made exclusively for The Porthole by Sinfully The Best, Steveston's top chocolatier.

Wine and beer on tap!
The Porthole opened its doors on April 1, 2018 (April Fool’s Day, what could go wrong!) by owners David Silva and Sascha Kuypers. Together with veteran chef Andreas Ohrt, they crafted a new and exciting venture for Steveston, giving the historic fishing village a fun European-style wine and tapas eatery.
Sascha's favourite kitchen tool is the culinary blow torch. Her favourite Friday night wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon but sometimes a Gin & Tonic or Ale are just as satisfying. She is in charge of the whole operation but prefers to focus on the music and social media.
Mexican-born and Paris-trained (at the Cordon Bleu), before dismounting in Steveston, chef Fernanda has vaulted around the kitchens of Lumiere, handsprung around True Confections, pirouetted in La Terrazza, and swung around Cafe Mediterranean (London, UK), and before that she saltoed in Le Bureau Creperie (Guadalajara, Mexico). Eagle-eyed readers would notice a gymnastic theme here. That’s because Fernanda also competed nationally in the sport. And still does. Beat that!
David is an accomplished dad and long-time Steveston resident. He likes to write in the third person. He loves reds from Spain’s Rioja region and vintage port. To date, he has broken four wine glasses, one plate, and lost a carafe behind the dishwasher. He is also in charge of checking the mail.
UPDATE: David has also broken 2 candle holders and 11 glasses.
